What to Know When Searching for “Acupuncture Near Me”

Updated: Jul 16

If you are interested in trying a new therapy in the Prescott Tri-City area, you might find yourself searching for “acupuncture near me.” This will throw up a whole range of different results. However, not all acupuncturists are the same, and there are a few things to consider before deciding.

In this article, we will explain some acupuncture basics and tell you all you need to know before choosing an acupuncturist.

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine. It originated in China and spread across Asia before making its way west in the 20th century. Although acupuncture is thousands of years old, it has evolved a lot since its creation.

It works by inserting ultra-fine needles into the skin at specific points on the body. The idea is to encourage the circulation of a substance called qi.

Most people translate the word qi as ‘energy’or ‘life force,’ and it plays many vital roles within the body. In modern times, we also look at anatomy, physiology, brain chemistry, and a range of other factors in determining the cause of imbalance.

The great thing about acupuncture therapy is that it views the body in a very different way from Western medicine. It sees every person as unique and aims to treat their specific symptoms right from their root cause. Acupuncture does not add anything or take anything away. It simply helps the body to heal itself holistically and naturally. It is safe for people of all ages and can be used alongside other treatments or medicines.

Acupuncture Benefits

People use acupuncture for a variety of reasons. In the Western world, we usually think of it as a treatment for pain. And although acupuncture can help a range of painful conditions, it is also much more than that.

Some of the most common reasons why people use acupuncture include:

●Acute and chronic pain

●Headaches/migraines

●Stress

●Anxiety

●Depression

●Women’s health

●Fertility

●Autoimmune disorders

●Skin problems

If you suffer from a condition not listed above, acupuncture may still be able to help. You can always call us at (928) 642-5382, we would be happy to answer your questions.

How to Find Acupuncture Near Me

If acupuncture sounds like something you'd like to pursue, you might be ready to type “acupuncture near me” into your search bar. But before you do, here are a few things to think about.

Therapeutic Modalities

What we currently call "acupuncture" actually encompasses multiple healing modalities.

Before making your first appointment, you should ask the provider what modalities they use in their work. When a person goes to school for acupuncture, they also learn herbal medicine, cupping, nutritional counseling, medical massage, and other techniques that can be very helpful. Not all providers will offer these modalities.

Cost

Acupuncture can be expensive. It takes several years to train as an acupuncturist, and the cost of this is often reflected by high treatment prices. Some acupuncturists charge as much as $ 175 for a single session, and very few insurance plans in Arizona cover it. Unfortunately, this means that a lot of people who could benefit from acupuncture end up missing out.

At Healing Kind we offer treatments in a private setting, with personalized, one-on-one care, for $100 a session. All of our licensed providers are skilled and experienced with all other therapies (cupping, gua sha, medical massage, and herbal medical consultations). All modalities are included in the price of a session, with one caveat - it is always exclusively up to the provider to determine which modality is most appropriate for you.

Healing Kind is also proud to be a community care provider for the VA of Northern Arizona.

Qualifications

It is essential to make sure your acupuncturist has the right qualifications and licenses. This will ensure that you are in good hands and your treatment will be safe and effective. Keep in mind, physical therapists, chiropractors, naturopaths and even some MDs can perform acupuncture legally in Arizona with a bare minimum of training. Sometimes they will refer to this as "dry needling" in order to get around the license and training requirements. It is not a good idea to go to one of these providers for acupunture, any more than you would go to a physical therapist for an eye exam, or an acupuncturist for brain surgery. At barest minimum, your provider should have the letters LAC at the end of their name. DAC is another letter combination you can rely on, meaning the provider has achieved a clinical doctorate in acupuncture.

Acupuncture Near Me: The Bottom Line

As you can see, finding the right acupuncturist is not as simple as searching for “acupuncture near me” and clicking on the first link you find. There are many different factors to account for before making your final decision. If you are thinking about trying acupuncture and are unsure where to turn, why not give us a call? We will be happy to discuss your options and explain how acupuncture could benefit you
